Measurement in 5th grade

5th grade finished Decimal Division in Ch. 5 and is working on Ch. 10 Measurement.  We'll go back to Ch. 6 working with Fraction Addition and Subtraction in 3rd quarter.  Students are learning both the Customary and Metric Systems of length, capacity/volume and weight along with time.

5th grade Working with Decimals

5th graders are learning about Decimal place value, rounding, ordering, adding and subtracting decimals.

8th grade Placement Test - Bishop Kelley

8th grade Math students are taking a temporary break from Ch. 3 (Graphing and Functions) to review several days this week for the upcoming Bishop Kelley Placement test.  Please practice your Math facts!  Think of sign rules, fraction and decimal operations, solving for variables, what certain words in problems correspond to what operations..... 'of' generally means multiplication, 'is' generally means equals.

5th grade Ch 2 Test

5th grade will have a test on Ch. 2 - Division this Tuesday, Oct. 14th.  Keep practicing your Math facts!

8th grade test on Rational Numbers

8th grade will have a test on Ch. 2 - Rational Numbers this Tuesday, Oct. 14th.  The Chapter Review handed out on Friday can be turned in for 20 extra credit points on Monday, Oct. 13th.

Tackling Problem Solving in 5th Grade

While refreshing double-digit multiplication skills, the 5th graders are powering through problem solving by learning to define the problem, identify the knowns, set up the equation and solve.  Remember the units!

Let's be Rational!

8th grade has been challenged to think 'rationally'.   This involves more than thinking clearly!  Rational numbers are numbers that can be written as fractions.  We'll be perfecting fraction operations in Ch. 2.

Back to School Night reminder

I look forward to meeting parents at the middle school Back to School night next Tuesday, Aug. 26th starting at 6:30pm.   Wednesday, Aug. 27th, will be the 5th grade Back to School night at 7:30pm.

8th grade Math off to a good start

8th grade Math students are reviewing evaluation of algebraic expressions and writing algebraic expressions.  We'll continue to review number properties and integers next week.

Welcome Back Students

I bet you all had some fun summer adventures. It will be good for all of us to get back into a learning routine. Make sure to get your rest, drink lots of water and eat well. Summer Math Packets are due the first day of school.
