Metric Measurement in 5th grade

5th grade Math finished part 1 of Chapter 10 on Customary Measurement.  Students learned the use of conversion factors for length, capacity and weight and dimensional analysis.  They created foldables with factors and examples, but after working with them for several weeks, they have retained many of the conversions without needing their foldables!  Excellent effort 5th grade.

This week starts part 2 of Chapter 10, on to the Metric System.  Base 10 is so straightforward with conversions.  They will master this easily.

8th grade Math - Chapter 6

8th grade Math begins Chapter 6, Decimals and Percents, after finishing Ratios, Rates and Proportions.

8th grade Placement Test - Bishop Kelley

8th grade Math students are taking a temporary break from Ch. 3 (Graphing and Functions) to review several days this week for the upcoming Bishop Kelley Placement test.  Please practice your Math facts!  Think of sign rules, fraction and decimal operations, solving for variables, what certain words in problems correspond to what operations..... 'of' generally means multiplication, 'is' generally means equals.

Tackling Problem Solving in 5th Grade

While refreshing double-digit multiplication skills, the 5th graders are powering through problem solving by learning to define the problem, identify the knowns, set up the equation and solve.  Remember the units!

Let's be Rational!

8th grade has been challenged to think 'rationally'.   This involves more than thinking clearly!  Rational numbers are numbers that can be written as fractions.  We'll be perfecting fraction operations in Ch. 2.
